The visual distribution shows that while many counties have moderate to high vacancy, several areas—particularly in parts of the Piedmont, northeastern, and southeastern regions—are experiencing low availability.

Key Insight
With more than 1,200 beds currently vacant, there is significant statewide capacity. However, the uneven distribution of vacancies means that local shortages could still impact placement efficiency. The map and filters can be used to target areas where additional placement resources or transfers may be most needed.
